I don’t know about you but sometimes I feel like I have to do things on my own. When I feel overwhelmed by the news cycle, when I am facing a hard decision, when I am feeling challenged by the circumstances of my life – I can fall in to the trap of thinking I have to be strong, hold my own struggles, tough it out.
The wisdom from Ecclesiasticus reminds us this morning:
Faithful friends are a sturdy shelter:
whoever finds one has found a treasure.
Faithful friends are beyond price;
no amount can balance their worth.
The author of this scripture instructs us to be a friend of many by being kind. Yet, find those few in the many with whom you have a deep connection. Trust those few as your council. These faithful friends will walk alongside you through life.
You do not have to face this life on your own. God has blessed us with a loving community. There are people here who care for your well-being. Try to remember this when you are feeling burdened. The love of God is reflected by the love of community and the faithful friend.
