Jesus’ disciples were his students. He was responsible, in part, for their spiritual formation. He instructed them through parables. He taught them as a living example. He questioned and stretched their understandings of the divine and humanity. He also prayed for them.
Each of us has a spiritual teacher in our lives – a priest, a Sunday school teacher, an elder, a child, a friend or stranger. These teachers form us in many of the same ways Jesus forms his disciples.
I would posit that most of us are spiritual teachers for others as well. Even if you are not a theological scholar or formal religious leader – as a person of faith you have something to teach others about what it means to love God and follow Jesus.
So, continue living as an example, asking questions, stretching your understanding, practicing prayer. You never know who might be learning to be faithful from you.
